Do not Stop until You Pass Go (2000)
Duration 10’
For piano and pre-recorded track
Later orchestrated and extended for English National Ballet, and toured under the title Manoeuvres
First performed as part of the Ballet Central National Tour of 2000 at the Kenneth More Theatre, Ilford
Choreographed by Patrick Lewis
Choreographer, Patrick Lewis, was commissioned by the then artistic director of Ballet Central, Greg Horsman, to choreograph a piece for male dancers, to give a showcase to a strong year of boys.
The music on the track is fundamentally symphonic, generated from a palette of patches on the Roland D550. By extension the writing for the live piano is naturally concertistic. Bright and energetic throughout, it is in three through-composed sections, the middle one being a powerful duet between a trumpet fanfare and sampled timpani.
The work was later orchestrated and extended, and, renamed as Manoeuvres, it was taken into the rep of English National Ballet for their Tour de Force in 2002.
